| Biography: In her second year as an Assistant Professor of Music at Illinois Central College, Cherilee comes to Peoria with a wealth of professional and educational experience. As a former Fleet Vocalist for the United States Navy, her voice and arrangements have been heard in more than 25 countires throughout Europed, North Africa, the Middle East, and North America. Cherilee has sung in uniform at the World Military Games of 1996; the Rose of Tralee Festival in 1996; and the Rome Jazz Festival of 1997. As a civilian performer, she has also appeared with artists such as Willie Nelson, The Mills Brothers, John Hammond, Jr., and The Four Lads. Locally, she has performed with the Todd Kelly Quintet and the Central Illinois Jazz Orchestra. Holding degrees from Baldwin Wallace College and Indiana University, her research has been presented and published through the International Association for Jazz Education, International Alliance for Women in Music, and Oklahoma and Ohion chapters of the Music Educators National Conference. Her music is published through the University of Colorado Jazz Press and Really Good Music. Prior to coming to Illinois, her vocal jazz ensemble performed her works at Phil Mattson's Vocal Jazz Festival at Carnegie Hall in 2001. Cherilee is a doctoral candidate at the University of Oklahoma, where she is completing her dissertation on teaching techniques for teaching jazz improvisation to vocalists. |
