| A native of the Midwest, Holly received her Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI in 2000. Later that year, she released, produced, and co-engineered her first solo album, the Climb, featuring jazz and Brazilian music and two pieces with original lyrics. In the fall of 2001, Holmes accepted an internship with the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as jazz programming assistant. There she worked with Billy Taylor and his radio series as well as production assistant and recording engineer for the other three jazz series. In 2002, Holmes returned to Michigan to perform regionally with her jazz quintet including one trip to Brazil as guest vocalist with the alumni jazz quintet representing WMU. In 2004, Holmes received a grant from the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo to live and study in Brazil for 6 months. While there Holmes studied Portuguese and jazz guitar. She currently relocated to Illinois where she continues her performing career and resides with her fiance. |
