Biography
THE END TIMES TRIO is Springfield IL's only known local avant-garde jazz ensemble, and features FRANK TROMPETER on tenor, alto, and soprano saxophones, MARK SCHWARTZ on bass and prepared guitar, and RICHARD GILMAN-OPALSKY on drums and percussion. END TIMES TRIO plays dynamic improvised music that treads a sonic terrain from sparse and melodic to dense, blustery cacophony. END TIMES TRIO has performed at music venues and galleries in Springfield and Jacksonville, and at the Lemp Neighborhood Arts Center in St. Louis, MO. The group also hosts the Springfield Freejazz Creative & Music Forum, an ongoing series of performances by artists and ensembles involved in improvised and experimental music. The Forum presents performances with collaborative opportunities for artists and ensembles involved in improvised and/or experimental music. END TIMES TRIO, as well as The Springfield Freejazz & Creative Music Forum represent a commitment to enriching the city's cultural activity by creating space for an eclectic and innovative art-form with a rich history. Introducing the END TIMES TRIO: • RICHARD GILMAN-OPALSKY is a drummer and percussionist who has recently relocated to Springfield, IL from NYC to start a position as professor of political philosophy at The University of Illinois. In NY, Gilman-Opalsky was one half of the saxophone and drums duo, Fire&Flux, has recently recorded with Blaise Siwula and Katsuyuki Itakura, and has performed creative improvised music in colleges and universities throughout the country, and in numerous art galleries and experimental music venues in NYC. For further information, visit his bio on the Web site AllAboutJazz.com. • FRANK TROMPETER is a long-time mainstay of the central Illinois jazz scene, leading his own Frank Trompeter Quartet, or experimental groups such as funk-rock hybrid elevator shoe or the improv-based Untoward Quartet, and was the chief organizer of the Innovators New Music Series. • MARK SCHWARTZ is an improvising guitarist and bassist who played with Frank in The Untoward Quartet and also with the experimental group Liquid Sun. Schwartz, who often uses objects, metal, toys, and electronics to prepare his guitar, evokes a range of percussive and horn-like tones. WEB PAGE: On MySpace.com: http://www.myspace.com/endtimestrio
