Biography
Hollye Green was born in Peoria, Illinois. While earning her B.A. in French at Illinois State University, she received a scholarship to Universite Stendhal in Grenoble, France. In Paris and Grenoble, she made extra money by singing at cafés, performing American standards made popular by Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf and Rosemary Clooney. The heavy blues and jazz atmosphere further molded her musical direction and began to infuse itself in her writing and style. The smoky sensuality of Southern France nightlife still flavor her writing and vocal direction. In 2007, she began classically training her voice at the Koch Studio at ISU in Bloomington, Illinois, and performed at the ISU Performing Arts Center to her first large audience. In 2009, she began writing and performing comedy songs at the Jukebox Comedy Club. Although she tried different comedic formats – character pieces, monologues, prop comedy – it was always the songs that got the best response and brought her the most joy. She joined ASCAP and decided to commit to doing exactly what she loves – writing poetry and making music. In 2010, she began working with her music partner and close friend, Billy Kocher – a talented guitarist, bassist and songwriter. They perform live as a cover duo, The Crossing – putting their own bluesy, acoustic spin on works by Oasis, The Police, The Animals, The Church and Sheryl Crow. Their original work as a duet is a combination of strong vocals and industrial sensuality. “Creating Poetry and Music is a visceral thing – something you feel more than hear. It touches and surrounds you; invades, opens and changes you. There is nothing I would rather do with my life.” -
